What to do when a rider makes a mess in a robotaxi
Take the cab out of service as soon as you know, photograph the mess before anything is touched, blot liquids and lift solids without scrubbing, then get the cabin cleaned and disinfected before the next ride. In a car with no driver, the hard part is knowing in the first place, which is why the next rider's report matters more than anything else.
1. Stop the next ride
Every extra trip in a dirty cab means another rider who sees it, and another chance the mess spreads. Pause the vehicle in your network's owner tools if you can, or route it back to where it parks.
2. Photograph it first
Take wide and close photos of the seat, the floor and anything left behind, with the time showing. Ride-hail networks usually want evidence before they process a cleaning fee, and a cleaner can quote more accurately from photos.
3. Blot, do not scrub
- Liquids: press with absorbent towels; do not rub.
- Solids: lift them off with a scraper or card into a bag.
- Bodily fluids: wear gloves, do not scrub, and avoid household chemicals that can set a stain or push it into the foam.
- Air the cabin with the doors open if it is safe to.
4. Get it cleaned before the next ride
A localized spill or a sick seat is a short job for a cleaner who comes to the car. A soaked seat or a smell that will not go usually needs extraction or a deeper treatment. Ask for the price before anyone goes out; a cleaner who sees photos can quote it.
5. Hear about it sooner next time
Put a rider card in the cab. The next rider can scan it and report a problem in about 20 seconds, so you can request help sooner. Every request is confirmed for availability in your area before any charge. RoboCab Care rider cards are free.
Common questions
Should I scrub vomit out of a car seat?
No. Scrubbing pushes fluid deeper into the seat foam. Lift off solids, blot, and leave the enzyme treatment and disinfection to a cleaner. Wear gloves if you have to touch it.
Can I charge the rider for the cleaning?
Ride-hail networks run their own cleaning-fee process. News reports describe Uber's fees as $20 to $150 depending on the mess. Check your network's current policy; photos taken before cleaning are what those claims usually need.
How much does a robotaxi cabin rescue cost?
At RoboCab Care, a Quick rescue is $59, a Spill rescue $89 and a Sick-seat rescue $149, at the car with travel within 10 road miles included for confirmed requests. Every request is confirmed for availability in your area before any charge.
How do I find out about a mess sooner?
Ask the riders. A QR rider card in the cab lets the next rider report a problem in about 20 seconds, so you hear about it before more riders sit in it.
